Terry’s operating strengths are founded on an ability to define and realize new business models, coupled with deep empathy for his fellow entrepreneurs. At ONSET, he has helped to steer the success of startups that include Adaptive Insights, APX, Arcot Systems, Callidus Software, Nektar Therapeutics, and Penederm.

Terry started ONSET in 1984, following a long career in high-technology companies. Prior to founding ONSET, he was President of VisiCorp, guiding the software publishing company from inception into an industry leader. Early in his career, Terry was a technical manager at Hewlett-Packard as part of the original group that started HP’s computer business. He later headed Intel’s microcomputer systems business and microprocessor development.

Terry is passionate about teaching, and focuses on sharing the fundamentals of building successful businesses with the next generation of entrepreneurs. He is a fellow at the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, where he has taught the venture capital class since 2003.

Terry received a B.S. from the Michigan State University Honors College, and an M.S. from Stanford University. And when you are in a meeting with him, ask him “What’s ticking?”
